Bio: Soumya Suvra Das has been teaching and making films for the last 15 years. He was earlier associated with St. Xavier’s, Lady Brabourne, The Bhawanipur Education Society College, NSHM, WLC College and ILead. He is an astute professional with sound experience in teaching and research. His recent essay, ‘New Cinema Movement and the “No Land’s Man”: Questions of Land in Ankur and Aakrosh’ can be found online published by e-Jump Cut. His areas of research include Hindi Popular Cinema, Marxist Film Theory and Political Cinema.
With a Master’s degree in Film Studies and a Bachelor degree in Comparative Literature from Jadavpur University, he is pursuing Ph.D. on Land Relations in Hindi Films.
His last short film ‘Mochhob’ (Bengali, 2014) is critically acclaimed and is available on an international OTT platform. He made his debut in 2005 with the short film ‘Disbranded’, followed by ‘The Forlorn’ (2006) and ‘The Other Tagores’ (2008).
